Abstract

Background: The Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) is an easy and cost-effective tool for
assessing the cumulative impact of atherosclerotic risk factors and serves as an independent predictor
of future cardiovascular risk. Measuring the CIMT of the Common Carotid Artery (CCA) using B
mode ultrasound has proven to be a suitable non-invasive method for visualizing arterial walls and
monitoring the early stages of the atherosclerotic process.
