Abstract

Background & Methods: The aim of the study is to evaluate the outcome of pregnancy in women with primary hypothyroidism. In the hypothyroid patients, besides the routine antenatal profile & ultrasonography, thyroid function tests served as the guiding investigations in the management of pregnancy. Results: 24% hypothyroid patients had conceived after receiving treatment for infertility besides thyroxine therapy. Anemia was seen in 24% cases. 12% cases had fetal distress. Conclusion: Adequate thyroxine replacement in the hypothyroid patients in our study found that there were no cases of abortions, placental abruption, PPH, stillbirths & congenital malformations. Only one baby born in the hypothyroid group thyroxine replacement & till date the baby is following up & has normal milestones. Thyroid disorders in ·pregnancy are a group of disorders with different clinical manifestations which require a rational approach In their diagnosis & management. The signs & symptoms of hypothyroidism are remarkably diverse.
