Rheumatic Mitral Valve Repair versus Replacement in a Threshold Country
DOI:

mitral valve repair; rheumatic heart disease; durability of valve repairAbstract
The most prevalent cause of valvular diseases in developing countries is rheumatic heart disease. The mitral valve is the most significantly impacted in up to 50% of such cases. Valve replacement with metallic prosthesis has been associated with many complications. Whereas Mitral repair has been the gold standard in degenerative mitral regurgitation, it is still a topic of
controversy in rheumatic mitral valve disease due to its inferior durability.
