Abstract

In surgical diseases, obesity is a significant risk factor for wound infection, more 
surgical blood loss and a longer post-operative time and increased risk of venous 
thromboembolism due to impairment of cardiac, pulmonary, and immunological 
functions. Underweight patients are at more risk for post-operative complications, 
including long term mortality. We obtained data prospectively from 1540 patients 
attending General surgery OPD from October 2022- December 2022 in Victoria
