GC-MS STUDY OF PARMOTREMA PERLATUM AN EDIBLE LICHEN & ASSESSMENT OF ITS ANTIOXIDANT POTENTIAL BY MOLECULAR DOCKING & INVITRO METHODS

Abstract
Parmotrema perlatumis edible lichen. It is commonly known as black stone flower belong to the family Permaliaceae. It is one of the most unusual spices used by Indians & Chinese for its medicinal value and aroma. Hence the availability of research reports on this lichen is very limited, the present study is aimed to extend the research on Parmotrema Perlatum. Identification of phytoconstituents by chemical tests and GC-MS. It is also viewed to evaluate antioxidant capacity of methanolic & n-hexane extract of Parmotrema Perlatum by molecular docking and Invitro methods. The results of this study had demonstrated the presence of terpenoids, coumarins, flavonoids and alkaloids as chief constituents. Molecular docking studies had revealed that the identified constituents have good binding score with PDB Ids 1HD2 and 1CB4 which serve as target enzymes to assess antioxidant activity. In vitro antioxidant studies of methanolic & n-hexane extracts revealed that both extracts has remarkable antioxidant potential.
