SUBMANDIBULAR GLAND CAVERNOUS HEMANGIOMA – A RARE CASE REPORT

Abstract

Cavernous hemangioma in the submandibular gland is rare. A 18 year old boy presented with complaints of swelling over left submandibular region for past 4 years. MRI done and showed a well defined lobulated lesion of size 3 x 1.9 x 2.5cm in the left parapharyngeal space and posteromedial to left body and ramus of mandible. He underwent excision of the submandibular gland along with the mass through the submandibular incision without any complication. Histo-pathology report showed salivary gland parenchyma with numerous congested blood vessels in the septa with a benign lesion composed of various sized dilated blood filled cavernous spaces with haemorrhage separated by a vary thin fibrous septa in microscopic view and features suggestive of cavernous haemangioma.
