Abstract

Objective: To discuss the management of sigmoid sinus thrombophlebitis secondary to middle ear cholesteatoma. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed all cases of sigmoid sinus thrombophlebitis caused by middle ear cholesteatoma over a 7-year period. Nine patients (7 male, 2 female, aged 9-66 years) were diagnosed with sigmoid sinus thrombophlebitis based on clinical presentation and radiological examination. All patients underwent modified mastoidectomy and canal wall down tympanoplasty to completely remove the cholesteatoma, without opening the sigmoid sinus. All patients received broad-spectrum antibiotics, but anticoagulants were not used.
