BACKGROUND :India is a country with diverse customs and beliefs regarding child rearing. Childrearing practices during health and ill-health vary from region to region and from community to community. The traditional practices are so deep in the minds of people that it is difficult to change them even when they are identified to be worthless and harmful. Most of the superstitious practices innocuous as far as their effect on progress of the disease is concerned. But their adoption hinders scientific treatment.
