Abstract

Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability. It is now becoming an important cause 
of premature death and disability in a country like India. There are many risk factors for stroke 
which include age, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, hypertension, 
dyslipedemia, diabetes mellitus, obesity, cardiovascular diseases and metabolic syndrome. 
Certain biochemical factors have also been implicated as a definite modifiable risk factor.
