Abstract

Background: Intermaxillary fixation (IMF) has traditionally been an essential component in the management of mandibular fractures. With the development of rigid internal fixation techniques, the necessity of postoperative IMF has been increasingly questioned. Despite the advances in fixation methods, many surgeons continue to use IMF as an adjunct following open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF).
