Background: Research trials have been conducted on various pharmacological and
nonpharmacological measures for ameliorating POST with a varied success rate. Magnesium has
antagonistic property towards NMDA receptors and hence it acts as anti-nociception and
antiinflammatory agent and so when used as premedication before surgery the incidence of
POST could be reduced.
