Anaesthetic management of systemic Lupus Erythematosus - Case series

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune connective tissue disorder. SLE can propose paramount challenges to the anaesthesiologist due to coagulation abnormalities, multiple organ damage and complex treatment regimes. In SLE
patients, complications flare up during pregnancy, another important issues includes cardiac involvement, coronary vasculitis, anaemia, thrombocytopenia, thromboembolic phenomena, neurologic involvement and airway manifestations leading to difficult airway. Thus multidisciplinary, individual based approach is utmost important in perioperative management. The present series discusses anaesthesia challenges of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus patients posted for various surgeries.
