A study of self efficacy for physical activity among adolescents of Kurnool town, Andhra Pradesh.

Abstract
Background: Physical Activity contributes to improved musculoskeletal health and the potential for reducing the risk for chronic disease such as Type 2 DM, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and certain cancers. Self efficacy is an important personal determinant of physical activity behaviour. Objectives: To estimate the self efficacy for physical activity among adolescents and to estimate physical activity levels in the last one week. Methodology: It was a cross sectional study done for a period of four months among 1320 adolescent students in junior colleges, Kurnool .Results: Mean self efficacy scores for physical activity were high at household and transport domains. Self efficacy for physical activity was high among government college students compared to private college students. Mean score of physical activity for PE classes is 1.28 which is the least .Conclusion: Self efficacy was observed to be strong predictor of physical activity whose association was found to be statistically significant
