Abstract
Background and purpose: In pregnancy, accurate estimation of fetal gestational age plays an important role in efficient obstetric management and outcome. Methods to date pregnancies should be simple and straightforward, irrespective of gestational age. Obstetric sonography because of its accuracy and easily reproducibility plays a significant role in determination of gestational age. Using ultrasonography, several fetal biometric parameters can be used to assess fetal development in the different trimesters. The fetal kidney is easy to identify after 20 weeks of gestation. Several studies have shown that the fetal kidney length correlates well with the gestational age of the fetus.
