A STUDY OF NEW ONSET DIABETES MELLITUS IN COVID 19 INFECTED PATIENTS AND COMPARISON OF HRCT SCORE IN DIABETIC AND NON-DIABETIC PATIENTS.

Abstract
Introduction: Recent evidences are indicating occurrence of diabetes mellitus (DM) due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The reason for the occurrence could be many and it can also be said that impaired glucose metabolism may not the factors behind it. Here impaired pancreatic insulin secretion as well as the insulin resistance have been concerned as causal mechanisms. It is significant that new-beginning of hyper glycaemia is related to COVID-19 patientsí worse diagnosis. It is very much probable that for the patients who had the history of DM will suffer more due to Covid 19. But to be conclusive of any such statement may need the research world to look for more data and analysis thereof. One such research conducted and further published in Nature indicate that the mutation of virus may be leading to a new type of diabetes. It is generally believed that in case of virus, a specific type of cells are getting damaged. The specific cells are actually the beta cells. Once the beta cells are damaged, it becomes difficult for the body to make insulin. Materials And Methods- This is a single hospital based prospective observational type of study. Results- All the patients were asked detailed history about preexisting comorbidities, which decreases the chance of false positive result of study. It was found that COVID 19 infection increase the risk of hyperglycemia in patients with no preexisting association with diabetes. Conclusion- It is not only the Diabetes Mellitus which is endangering the life after infection with Covid-19 but at the same time Diabetes Mellitus is also getting changed due to COVID-19.
