    Abstract

Inducing labor at term is a popular obstetric practice that has the potential to improve pregnancy outcomes and reduce maternal problems. Misoprostol is becoming more popular as an excellent agent for labor induction owing to its low cost, efficacy, convenience of use, and variety of routes of administration, including vaginal, oral, sublingual, and rectal. Objective: To study efficacy between oral and vaginal misoprostol by induction delivery interval and to find out the maternal and fetal outcome after labor induction with oral or vaginal misoprostol. Material and Methods: This Descriptive Observational study was conducted in a clinical setting under supervision and guidance in the department of obstetrics and gynecology in a tertiary health care center. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between two groups in regards to Bishop score. There was no statistically significant difference between two groups in regards to indications for misoprostol. There was no statistically significant difference between two groups in regards to maternal outcome. There was no statistically significant difference between two groups in regards to neonatal outcome. There was a statistically significant difference between two groups in regards to duration of latent phase, duration of 1st stage, third stage of labor, induction delivery interval. There was a statistically significant difference between two groups in regards to dose of misoprostol. Conclusion: Oral route of administration of misoprostol for the induction of labor at term is equally successful or even more than the vaginal route, because of higher rates of vaginal births, lower rates of caesarean section, and shorter induction - delivery interval
