Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of intravenous (IV) infusion of dexmedetomidine versus IV infusion of propofol for post-operative sedation in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: A prospective, randomized controlled trial was conducted involving 300 postoperative ICU patients. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either dexmedetomidine or propofol for sedation. Sedation depth was assessed using the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS), monitoring vital signs, and adverse events. Baseline demographic data, including age, sex, BMI, comorbidities, surgery duration, and APACHE II scores, were recorded. Statistical analysis employed t-tests, chi-square tests, and Fisher's exact tests for comparison.
