Abstract
Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease marked by poor glucose metabolism and insulin resistance. Although diabetes-related cardiovascular and renal complications have historically received the majority of attention in research and clinical care, the effects of diabetes on pulmonary functions are becoming more widely acknowledged. There appears to be a reciprocal relationship between type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and pulmonary function, whereby respiratory health is influenced by diabetes and vice versa
