Abstract
Peritonitis caused by gastrointestinal tract perforations, a common occurrence in this country, requires rapid surgical intervention and is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. The most catastrophic outcome, a perforated duodenal ulcer, is estimated to have a high mortality rate.
