    Abstract

The study was carried out to evaluate the aerobic bacteria involved as well as their antibiotic sensitivity pattern in patients who were diagnosed with chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) and to provide a guideline for the treatment of CSOM with empirical antibiotics. The common organisms causing CSOM in our study are Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus species, Klebsiella species and E. coli. It is absolutely necessary to have an understanding of the local pattern of infection in order to provide a guideline for empirical antibiotic therapy. The objective of this study is to discover the local pattern of aerobic bacteria that are causing chronic suppurative otitis media as well as the antimicrobial sensitivity pattern of these microbes. This will allow the treating doctors to determine which antibiotics are most likely to be effective against those particular microbes
