Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is defined as a preventable disease, caused mainly by chronic inflammation of the airways, characterized by persistent symp- toms such as cough and dyspnea, and modification of lung function parameters shown on spirometry. Smoking is the most incriminated and studied risk factor for COPD, but other factors such as air pollution, are also linked to this disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that over 400 million people suffer from COPD and that this disease is the third highest cause of mortality worldwide
