    Abstract

Context Foods and the nutrients they contain have the potential to interact with medications, compromising the therapeutic safety and effectiveness of both. It is possible to avoid possible drug-food interactions among patients if healthcare professionals (HCPs) possess sufficient information about drug-food interactions. The purpose of this research was to evaluate HCPs' understanding of typical drug-food interactions. Techniques Between November 2018 and January 2019, 459 HCPs from three public hospitals in KwaZulu-Natal's eThekwini area participated in a cross-sectional survey. After obtaining the HCPs' informed permission, a standardized questionnaire was given out. Data analysis was done using SPSS® version 25. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors related to HCP knowledge.
