    A study on the association between immature platelet fraction and platelet recovery in dengue fever cases

    Abstract

    Immature platelet fraction (I.P.F), a recently introduced parameter in certain cell counters (SYMEX XNL 350).The RNA of these platelets can be accurately quantitated by flow cytometry using a dye like oxazine. Immature platelet fraction is an index of thrombopoiesis which quantitates reticulated platelets. This is analogue to reticulocytes. All the cases which meet Inclusion criteria were included, after taking written informed consent from patients. Structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Initial data: age, sex, place, occupation, Income and address were taken. In the study IPF at 5.1 had highest sensitivity of 40.26%, Specificity of 95.65%, PPV of 96.88%, NPV of 32.35% and Diagnostic Accuracy of 53% in predicting Platelet recovery within 24 hrs
