Abstract
Background Acute soft head syndrome is a rare complication of sickle cell disease. This case report describes an 18-year-old male with sickle cell disease who presented with right-sided periorbital and scalp swelling, indicative of acute soft head syndrome, one of the rarest complications of this condition. The patient was treated without aspiration of the scalp swelling, highlighting that acute soft head syndrome should be considered a differential diagnosis for scalp pain and swelling in sickle cell disease patients.
