    Abstract

    Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by resting tremor, muscle rigidity, and bradykinesia. It is caused by arteriosclerosis, diffuse central nervous system degenerative disease, repeated head trauma, tumour, and metabolic defect. A family history is the strongest predictor of an increased risk of developing the disease. Drug induced parkinsonism is caused by dopamine recepter block. Autonomic dysfunction can lead to orthostatic hypotension, sialorrhea, constipation, incontinence, frequency, excessive sweating and seborrhea. Preoperative acid aspiration prophylaxis is given to prevent gastric stasis and gastroesophageal reflux.
