Abstract
Globally, 48 million couples and 186 million individuals face the problem of infertility. Out of all infertility cases, approximately 40–50% are due to the “male factor†and 2% of all men will exhibit suboptimal sperm parameters. It may be one or a combination of low sperm concentration, poor sperm motility, or abnormal morphology. In recent years, the development of computerized systems provides an objective and rapid method for semen analysis, suitable for the study of more sophisticated parameters of sperm motility. Electron microscopy should be performed for the evaluation of ultrastructural abnormalities of spermatozoa in men with infertility of uncertain origin.
