    Abstract

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the inflammatory disorders of the urinary tract caused by the abnormal growth of pathogens. UTI is one of the infectious diseases affecting both genders. The causative microbial pathogens invade the urinary tract tissues extending from the renal cortex to the urethral meatus. The prevalence of drug resistant microbes in urinary tract infected cases is a major problem to solve. With this background of the epidemiology ofurinary tract infection, a study was carried out among the patients visiting tertiary care hospital associated with Rama medical college, hospital and research centre Hapur, UP. For this present study, medical practitioner’s suspected cases were chosen as samples. In a period of 6 months observation, a total of 422 cases were subjected to laboratory tests in department of Microbiology. Among them 300 were females and 122 were males. Total 78 (18.48%) samples out of 422 found positive. The suspected cases showed positive in the samples taken from males (18.03%) and females (18.67%). The female child recorded 12.5% positivity. An analysis of UTI positive culture showed the presence of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Proteus vulgaris from Gram negative (GNB) group and, Enterococcus sp, MRSA, MSSA from Gram positive cocci (GPC) group. Candida fungus was also isolated in 3.84% cases. The major cause of UTI was found due to E. coli infection (32.05%) among all pathogens tested in this study. The lowest resistance of E.coli isrecorded with Cefoxitin antibiotic (04%). Multi drug resistance (MDR) is majorly observedin study. Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the common diseases of humans. The objectives of this study were to: 1. Estimate the prevalence of UTI among 2- 80 years of patients visiting different wards of tertiary care hospital within a period of 6 months; 2. Conducting Antibiotic susceptibility Test ; 3. Estimation of UTI in patients in different age groups; 4. Gender wise comparison of share of UTI;.5. Most prevalent bacterial pattern in UTI cases; 6. Multi drug resistance (MDR) analysis.
