    DILTIAZEM VS NITROGLYCERIN OINTMENTS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ANAL FISSURE: A COMPARATIVE STUDY IN A TEACHING INSTITUTE OF NORTH EAST INDIA

    Abstract

    Anal fissure is a linear ulcer usually found in the midline distal to the dentate line in highly sensitive anoderm. This condition causes severe pain and if not adequately treated can lead to severe consequences. Until now due to it’s comparatively harmlessness it hasn’t garnered the interest of researchers to much greater extent. Aims: To compare the effect of local application of diltiazem 2% ointment and nitroglycerin 0.2% ointment in the treatment of anal fissure. Materials and Methods: The present study was a Prospective study. This Study was conducted from procedure was carried out for two year from at Department of General surgery, AGMC& GBP Hospital. Result: In our study, It was observed that, all patients [90 (100.0%)] had Pain in anal region. the study showed that, 51 (56.7%) patients had Bleeding while defecation. 79 (87.8%) patients were of mixed diet and 11 (12.2%) patients were of vegetarian diet. Conclusion: We concluded that most of the patients reported complete healing of fissures within 6–12 weeks in diltiazem. Diltiazem caused less side-effects particularly headache than glyceryltrinitrate ointment. Diltiazem may be the first-line treatment for chemical sphincterotomy for the chronic anal fissure
