Abstract
Background: Pneumonia is defined as the replacement of pulmonary parenchyma mainly by exudative collections arising from infectious etiology. Prevention is not only cost-effective but reduces the need of antibiotics as well as reduced the incidence antibiotic resistance, thus reducing overall morbidity & mortality as well as health expenditure. In this study we hypothesized maintenance of oral hygiene using 2% chlorhexidine would prevent oropharyngeal colonization thus reducing the risk of VAP without the risk of emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria
