    Evaluation of carotid arteries in stroke patients using color Doppler sonog raphy

    Abstract

    Background: This study was conducted to carry out to evaluate carotid arteries in stroke patients using color Doppler sonorap hy. Material and methods: The study was conducted on 100 patients who had symptoms and signs of stroke. Purposive sampling was used to choose the patients without regard to their age, sex, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. On a questionnaire, a comprehensive physical examination and a full history were conducted. Risk factors such ischemic heart disease, smoking, diabetes mellitus, and hyper tension were noted. Prior to the colour Doppler sonog raphy of the carotid arteries, the patients underwent a computed tomography (CT) scan investigation, and the results were recorded. Patients with head traumas, primary or metastatic brain tumours, symptoms of verte brobasilar insufficiency, and symptoms of head injury were excluded from the study. The GE Voluson E8 and GE Voluson S8 were used for the colour Doppler sono graphy.
