    Abstract

Pain after lower limb orthopaedic surgeries may be severe, thus adequate pain control can be a challenge. Lower limb orthopaedic surgeries include commonly; knee fractures, total and uni-compartmental knee replacement, knee arthroscopy, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, tibial fractures , the age of presentation usually of geriatric group for the former. Femoral nerve block (FNB) is many times provide successful analgesia in above described patients. However, in the absence of epidural or FNB, alternative method as adductor canal block (saphenous nerve block, which is the largest sensory branch of femoral nerve) can be an alternative method, which is not popularly described. This is because inadequate knowledge and understanding of sensory nerve supply of saphenous nerve to the knee and tibia.
