Abstract
The prevalence incidence and characteristics of secondary infection in patients infected with Covid-19 is not well understood and has been raised as an important knowledge gap. Critically ill patients are susceptible for the development of secondary bacterial infections. Due to a combination of virus- and drug-induced immunosuppression, these patients may even have a higher risk of developing a secondary infection. These secondary infections can increase the severity of illness and raise the risk of death. Further research on secondary infections in COVID-19 patients is essential. Therefore, the objective of this study objective of this study was to investigate the incidence of secondary bacterial infections and to assess the impact of secondary infections on the outcome of critically ill patients infected with SARS-CoV-2.
