    Abstract

    The inherited disorders of hemoglobin are the commonest single-gene disorders in man. Hemoglobinopathies constitute a very important causative factor for anemia’s of childhood. This is especially so in those regions where abnormal hemoglobin genes are prevalent in a frequency of high order. Sickle cell anaemia and thalassemia major can cause life-threatening situation and chronic ill health. They pose economical and psychological burden on the affected individual and his/her family, and the society as a whole
