    Abstract

Background: To evaluate the rate of prevalence and clinical features of fungal rhinosinusitis. Materials & methods: A total of 50 cases with chronic rhinosinusitis were enrolled. Consent was taken. Complete history was taken including immunocompromised cases. The prevalence of fungal rhinosinusitis among immunocompromised and immunocompetent groups of patients was determined. Follow up was done. Data was collected and results were analysed using SPSS software. Results: A total of 50 cases with chronic rhinosinusitis were included. On microbiological examination, the positive cases showed fungal rhinosinusitis were 10 and negative cases were 10. Mucor was the most commonly identified fungus in 15 subjects (50%), followed by Aspergillus in 10 patients (33.3%), and Candida species in 5 cases (16.7%). Conclusion: Complications were more common in fungal rhinosinusitis caused by Mucor species. Mucormycosis had a high prevalence.
