    Abstract

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a common surgical procedure used to treat coronary artery disease (CAD). The use of on-pump and off-pump techniques for CABG has been a topic of debate among cardiac surgeons. This study aims to describe the pulmonary outcomes of patients undergoing off-pump CABG versus on-pump CABG. Material and Methodology: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted. Data were collected from the medical records of patients who underwent CABG at a single center between June 2022 and December 2022. Patients were divided into two groups: off-pump CABG group and on-pump CABG group. The primary outcome measure was the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications. Secondary outcomes included ventilation time, length of stay in the intensive care unit, and length of hospital stay. Results: A total of 130 patients were included in the study, with 65 patients in each group. The incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications was lower in the off-pump group compared to the on-pump group (14% vs 24%, respectively). The off-pump group also had a shorter ventilation time (6.7 hours vs 9.4 hours), shorter length of stay in the intensive care unit (1.4 days vs 2.1 days), and shorter hospital stay (6.2 days vs 7.8 days). Conclusion: The findings of this descriptive study suggest that off-pump CABG may be associated with better pulmonary outcomes compared to on-pump CABG. Off-pump CABG may also lead to shorter ventilation time, shorter length of stay in the intensive care unit, and shorter hospital stay. However, further studies are needed to confirm these findings and to determine the long-term outcomes of off-pump CABG.
