    Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between haematological and inflammatory markers in patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome. Materials and method: This prospective randomized clinical study was conducted after clearance from Board of Studies and Ethical committee in the Department of General Medicine. Patients in the casualty department or the medicine indoor ward who have been diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome. At the beginning of the study, each participant was required to fill out a questionnaire, go through a physical examination, and provide a blood sample that was then sent off for biochemical analysis. Results: Majority of the subjects belonged to 51-60 years (31.4%) followed by 61-70 years (30.3%), above 70 years (22.9%) and 40-50 years (15.4%). The mean age of the study population was 62.92±9.78 (37-84) years. There were 56.0% males and 44.0% females. There was a significantly positive correlation of MPV, PDW and LCPR with HsCRP, NT-ProBNP and D-Dimer. Conclusion: Platelet indices is a simple and economical laboratory measurement (less costly and can be done when a complete blood count is already requested), and it is suggested that it might be useful as an assisting rule-out test in conjunction with other conventional biochemical cardiac markers in the early prediction of the risk of ACS in patients who have been admitted to the emergency department
