Serum ferritin level in type 2 diabetes mellitus and it's association with glycated hemoglobin

Abstract
Diabetes is a major health issue that has reached to alarming levels as more than half a billion people are living with diabetes worldwide and 77 million Indian population is having diabetes at present. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is the most common type of diabetes, accounting for around 90% of all diabetic cases and it is in fact a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Ferritin is a key protein in iron homeostasis, an increase in serum ferritin reflects the iron overload in body, elevated blood glucose, insulin resistance and in turn diabetes mellitus.
