    Abstract

The health of the mother during pregnancy can have a significant impact on the outcome of the neonate. Maternal factors such as age, nutrition, lifestyle habits, education, socioeconomic status, and prenatal care can all affect the growth and development of the fetus and ultimately the health of the new born. This study aims to study the impact of maternal factors on neonatal outcomes. Methods: Data was collected from the mothers of all newborns admitted to a tertiary care center over a period of one year. Descriptive data were computed and a comparison was made between the maternal factors and neonatal outcomes. Results: The gestational age of the mother, age of the mother during pregnancy, parity, regular antenatal check-ups, maternal nutrition, mode of delivery, birth weight, and place of birth have a highly statistically significant association with a p-value of <0.005. A statistically significant association was found between neonatal mortality, maternal education, and socioeconomic status. Conclusions: Maternal factors such as age, nutrition, education, lifestyle habits, prenatal care, and gestational complications can all impact the health of the fetus and the new born. Understanding these factors can help healthcare providers identify potential risks and implement appropriate interventions to improve neonatal outcomes.
