    Abstract

The purpose of my paper is to study efficacy of Rotterdam and VAMC scores for predicting AWD. METHODS :- A minimum of 50 patients undergoing either elective or emergency surgery are studied. The variables of both Rotterdam and VAMC score were studied in each patient. Then, odds ratio as risk coefficient calculated using a binary logistic regression model. RESULTS :- Various factors like male gender, both superficial and deep wound infection, ascites, anemia, postoperative complications like anastomotic leak and need of return to OR, surgery of small bowel are significant risk factors. Whereas COPD, emergency surgery, clean wound, duration of surgery, surgeon’s experience, failure to wean from ventilator are not significant risk factors. CONCLUSION :- From our study, this was concluded that both VAMC and Rotterdam risk scores can predict AWD but VAMC is somewhat more efficacious than Rotterdam.
