Abstract
Ankle fractures are among the most common injuries encountered by orthopaedic surgeon. In patients with diabetes, these fractures are associated with high rate of complications which are treated both operatively and non-operatively Results and Observation: The current study is an observational surgical study, comprised of 27 patients operated between December 2018 to November 2019 at a tertiary hospital. Discussion: Treatment of ankle fractures in diabetic patients remains challenging particularly in lower extremities. This can be attributed to the microangiopathic and neuropathic changes seen in the extremities which impedes soft tissue and fracture healing. Conclusion: Higher the level of HbA1C more the chances of complication. Type 1 and insulin dependent type 2 diabetes are more prone for wound complication & requires more careful observation
