Abstract
The metamorphosis of pregnancy takes a heavy toll on a female's mental, physical and emotional health. Heart disease can complicate 0.2-3 % of pregnancies and can affect both mother and foetus adversely. Better diagnostic tools and awareness have led to early detection and treatment of heart disease, better planning of pregnancies and improved peripartum management of pregnancy with cardiac disease. Case Report: A 33 year old female with 39 weeks of gestation in labor was posted for Emergency lower segment caesarean section due to abdominal pain and per vaginal discharge. The patient had a history of frequent dyspnea on exertion and Mitral regurgitation, and was on diuretics Tab. Frusemide 20 mg TDS and Tab. Metoprolol 12.5 mg OD since diagnosis. No allergies or addictions were present. Conclusion:Vigilant monitoring and early detection of a regurgitant valve can help to plan for a smooth and complication-free labor and delivery. A combination of general and regional anesthesia can be employed to meet hemodynamic goals and prepare for complications.
